Drivechain Rear Derailleurs

CALCULATING TOTAL CAPACITY

Total capacity represents the tolerance of the rear derailleur and needs to be calculated:

Total Capacity = (Largest chainring cog - smallest chainring cog) + (largest cassette cog - smallest cassette cog)

Example 11speed Rear Deraillieur RD-R68S max. sprocket is 25~32T and the total capacity is 35T.
If your crank set is 50-34, while cassette 11-25T. (50-34) + (25-11) = 30, 30 is within total capacity 35T, thus it is useable.

However, if your crank set is 50-34, while cassette is 11-34T. (50-34) + (34-11) = 39. 39 is larger than total capacity 35. This means the set up is not suitable within the range of tolerance.
