KWT is a bicycle parts and accessory wholesaler servicing bicycle stores in Australia and some Pacific Nations.
Selling a combination of known brands and general bicycle components, KWT's goal is to provide products of great value and quality for resale to bicycle retailers.
KWT began in the late 1950's by Kevin Thompson who started from a small shop in Redfern, Sydney, where he sold speciality racing components he imported from Europe and Japan. Kevin was also competing in State and national bicycle races at the time and sponsored numerous teams and riders such as Peter Panton.
In the early 1960's, Kevin became well known for this specialty racing frames, the distribution of the Clement Tubulars and a joint venture which saw him become a part of Atom Imports Wholesale Company also based in Sydney.
In the early 1970's, Kevin took a break and began buying and selling property in Brisbane but within a few years he re-entered the bicycle industry and started a business called KWT. He once again re-established himself as an importer of quality bicyle components and frames importing brand such as Daccordi, Suntour, Campagnolo and Clement and Dourdoigne tubular tyres.
In the early 1980's, Kevin started a family and forged on with arranging numerous bicycle races through South East Queensland.
The 1990's and early 2000's saw the business focused on rubber and general components and in 2006 his son Eamon Thompson took over as Manager of KWT injecting new life into the business.
Today the business is based in Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. His son Eamon now manages the company with a young vibrant team around him. Kevin comes to work most days and occasionally rides his bike, does yoga and visits local bicycle stores.
